Description

This integration provides storage topology and mapping information to Micro Focus Universal CMDB (UCMDB) from Micro Focus Storage Essentials (SE). SE is a storage resource management and storage automation platform that discovers and maps end-to-end storage data from arrays to host-file systems and also provides performance and usage data for the storage devices and volumes.

The SE Integration Adapter for Micro Focus UCMDB provides storage configuration items that are populated by Storage Essentials allowing IT Ops and storage admins to model change impact, track historical changes, and assure compliance of their storage infrastructure. The SE Adapter uses DDM to perform scheduled SQL queries against SE's Oracle database to populate the Configuration Items (CIs) in the UCMDB data model. This allows instant tracking and reporting on SAN and NAS storage configuration changes. In addition, customers can perform compliance audits by creating "gold CIs" and model proposed storage changes and visualize impacts prior to making a change.

Integration involves a UCMDB initiated discovery on the SE Oracle database. Synchronized CIs include storage arrays, fiber channel switches, hosts (servers), storage fabrics, logical volumes, host bus adapters, storage controllers, and fiber channel ports. The integration also synchronizes physical relationships between various hardware and logical relationships between logical volumes, storage zones, storage fabrics, and hardware devices to enable end-to-end mapping of the storage infrastructure in UCMDB.

The discovery job runs SQL queries against Oracle materialized views installed and maintained by SE in the Oracle database. The UCMDB discovery job in this package uses a database CI as the trigger. The job can also be scheduled to run at predetermined times. SQL queries executed by the discovery job retrieve detailed information to build CIs and relationships and populate the UCMDB.
