Searching the Help
To search for information in the Help, type a word or phrase in the Search box. When you enter a group of words, OR is inferred. You can use Boolean operators to refine your search.
Results returned are case insensitive. However, results ranking takes case into account and assigns higher scores to case matches. Therefore, a search for "cats" followed by a search for "Cats" would return the same number of Help topics, but the order in which the topics are listed would be different.
Search for | Example | Results |
---|---|---|
A single word | cat
|
Topics that contain the word "cat". You will also find its grammatical variations, such as "cats". |
A phrase. You can specify that the search results contain a specific phrase. |
"cat food" (quotation marks) |
Topics that contain the literal phrase "cat food" and all its grammatical variations. Without the quotation marks, the query is equivalent to specifying an OR operator, which finds topics with one of the individual words instead of the phrase. |
Search for | Operator | Example |
---|---|---|
Two or more words in the same topic |
|
|
Either word in a topic |
|
|

How to create a service definition record
Each category contains one or more service definitions. A service provides value to end users and supports their goals. A service definition is a high-level description of the provided service. The service definition also groups actual services that are part of the same domain.
When you create a service definition record, you must provide information about the service and add the record to your configuration management system.
- From the main menu, select Plan > Service Portfolio. The Service definitions page is displayed.
- Click New.
-
In the New Service Definition dialog box, provide the basic service definition attributes.
Field Description Display label A meaningful name that describes the service definition.
Example: Video Conferencing.
Description Detailed description of the service definition. Subtype The following subtypes are supported:
- Application: Select this option if the you want to create an application. Once created, this record is also displayed in the Application Portfolio Management module.
- Business service: Select this option if the services defined are available outside of IT. A business service can be internal to the organization or external to the organization.
- Infrastructure service: Select this option if the services defined are internal to the IT organization.
Catalog description The information that is to appear in the Service Catalog. It should contain the information that the end user needs to understand the service offering. -
Save the record. Service Management returns to the service definitions record list. You can see the new record that you created for the service definition. The next step is to edit that record to add further information. For more information, see How to edit a service definition record.
