Searching the Help
To search for information in the Help, type a word or phrase in the Search box. When you enter a group of words, OR is inferred. You can use Boolean operators to refine your search.
Results returned are case insensitive. However, results ranking takes case into account and assigns higher scores to case matches. Therefore, a search for "cats" followed by a search for "Cats" would return the same number of Help topics, but the order in which the topics are listed would be different.
Search for | Example | Results |
---|---|---|
A single word | cat
|
Topics that contain the word "cat". You will also find its grammatical variations, such as "cats". |
A phrase. You can specify that the search results contain a specific phrase. |
"cat food" (quotation marks) |
Topics that contain the literal phrase "cat food" and all its grammatical variations. Without the quotation marks, the query is equivalent to specifying an OR operator, which finds topics with one of the individual words instead of the phrase. |
Search for | Operator | Example |
---|---|---|
Two or more words in the same topic |
|
|
Either word in a topic |
|
|
Topics that do not contain a specific word or phrase |
|
|
Topics that contain one string and do not contain another | ^ (caret) |
cat ^ mouse
|
A combination of search types | ( ) parentheses |

Add a custom icon
Applies to User Roles:
System Administrator
You can add a custom icon to represent a new configuration item (CI) in the visualization diagrams from the Configuration Management module.
To add a custom icon, follow these steps:
- Add a new device type record in Configuration Management. For details, see Create a new configuration item (CI) type.
- Create the image you want to use for the CI icon.
- Click Configuration Management > Administration > Configure CI Visualization > CI Images.
- Select the device type and optionally a subtype.
- Click Add.
- Start adding the image by doing one of the following:
- For Windows clients: right-click the Image field, select Add, browse to the file, and then click Open.
For Web tier clients: click Specify Image, type the full path of the icon file in the File location text field or browse to the icon file, and then click OK.
The icon opens on the CI Image record.
-
Click Add or modify fields to use the Add or modify tooltip information wizard. Follow the instructions in the wizard that allow you to add, modify, or remove the fields and text that are displayed when hovering over the CI in the visualization diagram.
Note When displaying the tooltip for a multi-line text field, CI visualization inserts a line break for each element in the tooltip. Additionally, if the length of one element is greater than 55 characters, the line is truncated with an ellipsis mark (...).
-
Click Save.
HPE Service Manager maps the custom icon to the specified CI Type and saves it in the SYSATTACHMENTS table in the database.
