Searching the Help
To search for information in the Help, type a word or phrase in the Search box. When you enter a group of words, OR is inferred. You can use Boolean operators to refine your search.
Results returned are case insensitive. However, results ranking takes case into account and assigns higher scores to case matches. Therefore, a search for "cats" followed by a search for "Cats" would return the same number of Help topics, but the order in which the topics are listed would be different.

Create a new configuration item (CI)
After you validate a configuration creation change task and confirm that configuration item (CI) types and models already exist in HPE Service Manager for the new configuration, you can create the new CIs that make up the new configuration.
Note
- If your system is integrated with HPE Universal CMDB, HPE Universal CMDB sends CI records to Service Manager and attempts to match them to existing records. Your Service Manager system can be configured to automatically create a new CI record whenever HPE Universal CMDB cannot match the actual state of a CI to the values of an existing CI record. If this integration is active, you will see an Actual State section in the Service Manager CI record.
- You cannot use this method to create Baseline CI Groups but you can use the Add New Baseline wizard instead. To access the wizard, click Configuration Management > Resources > Baseline.
- Instead of starting from scratch, you can also create a new configuration item from an existing one by using the Duplicate Configuration Item option.
To create a new CI, follow these steps:
- Click Configuration Management > Resources > Search CIs.

Click New.
Note Alternatively, you can enter information in some fields and then click New. For details about fields on a CI form, see Configuration items details.

Select the CI type and then click Next.

The Configuration Item Details form opens, and the CI Identifier field is automatically populated with a unique identification number (for example, CI11090).

If the Allow User-Defined CI Identifier Values for New CIs option in the Configuration Management Environment record is enabled, you can edit the system-generated CI Identifier value according to your needs (for example, change the CI Identifier to Color-Printer-A1234). For more information about this option, see Configure the Configuration Management environment record.
Note When this option is not enabled, although you are still allowed to enter a CI Identifier value before clicking New, a system-generated value overwrites your value when the CI is created.

In the Display Name field, enter a display name for the CI.
Note CIs of the same CI type must use a unique display name, otherwise a validation error occurs later when you attempt to save the CI record. However, CIs of different CI types can have the same display name.

In the Part Number field, enter the part number of the model that is used for the new CI.

Enter other required or optional information to complete the CI record, and then click Save.
Service Manager creates the CI record with a unique identifier.
- If your Configuration Management policies require that CIs must be labeled, create and then attach a label to the CI. The label should include a unique identifier.
- Repeat the steps above for all CIs that make up the configuration.
- After you create the CIs, return to the change task and update it with the following information:
- CI data
- Actual start date
- Actual end date
- Close the task.
- Notify the change task requester upon task completion.
