Searching the Help
To search for information in the Help, type a word or phrase in the Search box. When you enter a group of words, OR is inferred. You can use Boolean operators to refine your search.
Results returned are case insensitive. However, results ranking takes case into account and assigns higher scores to case matches. Therefore, a search for "cats" followed by a search for "Cats" would return the same number of Help topics, but the order in which the topics are listed would be different.
Search for | Example | Results |
---|---|---|
A single word | cat
|
Topics that contain the word "cat". You will also find its grammatical variations, such as "cats". |
A phrase. You can specify that the search results contain a specific phrase. |
"cat food" (quotation marks) |
Topics that contain the literal phrase "cat food" and all its grammatical variations. Without the quotation marks, the query is equivalent to specifying an OR operator, which finds topics with one of the individual words instead of the phrase. |
Search for | Operator | Example |
---|---|---|
Two or more words in the same topic |
|
|
Either word in a topic |

Views
A view is a list of records produced by a search or filter operation. For example, you might filter a list of records with this criteria:
- Incident records where you are the assigned owner
- Change records with a common category
- Devices with the Windows 8 SP1 operating system
If these are common lists to work with, it is helpful to create a view that automatically searches, filters, and displays all records with matching criteria.
There are two types of views:
Public |
Views that are useful for everyone. Some end-user roles have permission to create, update, or delete public views |
Private |
Views that serve as shortcuts to lists of records that you work with regularly. Most users have permission to create private views. |
You can create views in most Service Management modules.
To create a view:
-
Choose an application module from the main menu.
You can choose any module under Plan, Build, or Run on the main menu. Example: Choose Knowledge.
-
Create a filter to produce a list of records. For details, see Filters.
- At the top of the page, click Edit Views.
- Click Save view or Save view as.
- Select Private. If you have permission, you can select Public.
