Device

It is helpful for end users to understand the role of devices in the SACM model, and how they relate to the traditional UDM classification.

  • In the Micro Focus Universal Data Model (UDM) Specification, a device configuration item is a node with one or more node elements.

  • In Service Management:

    • Each system element contains zero or more devices.

    • Every device supports a system element, or a service component.

    • A device is a type of configuration item.

Examples:

  • A computer that is visible on a network

  • A firewall that is not visible on a network

  • Servers, desktop computers, switches, and routers
