Topology Reports Overview

Topology reports provide a method of displaying the data from views in a report format. Every view defined in the Modeling Studio has a corresponding topology report in the Reports module. The report settings are defined in the view definition in Report mode in the Pattern View Editor. For details, see Pattern View Editor.

For details on selecting the CIs to be displayed in a view, see Working with the CI Selector.

Perspectives, perspective-based views and template-based views also have topology reports. The reports settings for such views are based on the settings defined in the base template or perspective.

You can open a template in the Reports module and edit the template parameters. You can then save the template instance as a template-based view by clicking Save As View.

Report Properties

There are two formats for the topology report tables:

  • Flat. In a flat report, the top layer of the report is displayed with the CIs with children appearing as links. You can click a CI to drill down to see its children. You can navigate back to higher layers of the report using the breadcrumbs appearing at the top of the report.
  • Hierarchical. In a hierarchical report, all the CIs of the report are displayed in the same table, in tree format. CIs with children are expandable to display the child CIs beneath them.

Another important difference between flat and hierarchical reports relates to the definition of charts for the report. In a flat report, you can define a chart for any layer of the report, even if a higher layer is in table format. In hierarchical reports, you cannot define a chart for a layer if the layer above it is in table format.

The report format can be set in the Report Properties dialog box, available in both Modeling Studio and the Reports module. For details, see Report Properties Dialog Box.
