Reconciliation Overview

Reconciliation is the process of identifying and matching entities from different data repositories (for example, Universal Discovery, DDMI, ticketing, or BSM). This process is designed to avoid duplicate CIs in .

Many different data collectors can send CIs to . In actuality, each different source might be providing information about the same CI. The reconciliation process is responsible for identifying and matching entities from different data collectors and storing them, without duplicating CIs, in .

Three main services provide support for the reconciliation process:

  • Identification service. Responsible for comparing incoming data (input CIs), according to defined identification rules. For details, see Identification Service.

  • Data In service. Responsible for inserting data into . This service decides whether to:

    • merge incoming data with existing CIs in

    • ignore input CIs in the case of multiple matches

For details, see Data-In Service - Populating UCMDB.

  • Merge. In Federation and Data-in flows, this service is responsible for merging CIs. Merging is done in accordance with defined reconciliation priority rules. For details, see Merging Matched CIs Using Reconciliation Priority Rules.

These services operate during the data-in process for inserting data from different sources into , and during federation for connecting or merging information from different data repositories during TQL query calculations.
