How to test the automatic reservation

To test the automatic reservation configuration, do each of the following:

Create the request

  1. From the main menu, select Service Portal.

  2. In Search topics, type "Request new PC." Search results are displayed.

  3. Click the offering "(DEMO) Request a new PC." The request form opens.

  4. In Business justification, type "I need a new PC for testing."

  5. Click Submit. A request receipt is displayed.

Review the request

  1. From the main menu, select Run > Service Request > Requests.

  2. Select the newly created request and click Details. The request is displayed.

  3. Click the Reservation tab. If the automatic reservation has completed:

    1. The Reserved flag for the reserved device is set to true; and

    2. The reservation details are displayed here.

  4. Click the Task Plan tab. In the Fulfill section, if the automatic reservation has completed, the Reserve PC part of the task plan is highlighted and marked "Completed."

    In addition, Service Management automatically sends a notification email to the person entered in the Reserved for field.

    The next stage is to complete the manual task "Prepare PC."

Complete the remaining manual tasks

Note Out-of-the-box, the task is assigned to the Hardware Services group. You must be in this group to view the task.

  1. From the main menu, select Tasks, then the MY GROUP TASK filter.

  2. Select the Prepare PC task.

  3. Click Completed, then Save.

  4. The next stage is the task "Close reservation." This task automatically completes.

    The next stage is to complete the manual task "Deliver PC."

  5. Select the Deliver PC task.

  6. Click Completed, then Save.

Review the device details

  1. From the main menu, select Run > Service Request > Requests.

  2. Select the newly created request. In the Reservation tab, click the ID link of the reservation displayed under Reserve Asset. The reservation record is displayed.

  3. Point to the Reserved device content and click the link to display the device record. The device workflow should now display that it is in the In use phase.

Review the resolution

  1. From the main menu, select Run > Service Request > Requests.

  2. Select the newly created request and click Details. The request is displayed.

    In the Resolution section of the General tab, the following should now be automatically populated as indicated:

    Solution: The PC has been delivered

    Completion code: Fulfilled offline

Validate the request completion

The assumption is that the PC has been delivered and received. Then the request submitter can validate the request in the Service Portal.

  1. From the main menu, select Service Portal.

  2. Open the request. The request is displayed with a validation request for acceptance.

  3. Click Accept. The request workflow changes to "Done."

If the reservation task completes without a reservation

If the reservation task displays as being complete, but there is no reservation in the reservation tab, check the following:

Area Review
Offering task plan

Check Reserve asset business rule is properly configured:

  • Asset model: is the asset model reference accurate? Is there any asset with the definitive asset model available in stock?

  • Location: is the location reference accurate? Is the location served by a stockroom?

  • phaseId: is the phaseId identical to that which is in the workflow?

Asset
  • Is there an asset using the correct asset model?
  • Is the asset in the stockroom?
  • Can the stockroom serve the location designated in the Reserve asset business rule?
  • Is the asset reserved for somebody else?
