Searching the Help
To search for information in the Help, type a word or phrase in the Search box. When you enter a group of words, OR is inferred. You can use Boolean operators to refine your search.
Results returned are case insensitive. However, results ranking takes case into account and assigns higher scores to case matches. Therefore, a search for "cats" followed by a search for "Cats" would return the same number of Help topics, but the order in which the topics are listed would be different.
Search for | Example | Results |
---|---|---|
A single word | cat
|
Topics that contain the word "cat". You will also find its grammatical variations, such as "cats". |
A phrase. You can specify that the search results contain a specific phrase. |
"cat food" (quotation marks) |
Topics that contain the literal phrase "cat food" and all its grammatical variations. Without the quotation marks, the query is equivalent to specifying an OR operator, which finds topics with one of the individual words instead of the phrase. |
Search for | Operator | Example |
---|---|---|
Two or more words in the same topic |
|
|
Either word in a topic |
|
|
Topics that do not contain a specific word or phrase |
|
|
Topics that contain one string and do not contain another | ^ (caret) |
cat ^ mouse
|
A combination of search types | ( ) parentheses |

New modules in the UCMDB Browser with capabilities that were previously provided using the UCMDB admin UI
With improved user experience and ease-of-use, and as the new web-based UCMDB UI, new modules in the UCMDB Browser provide capabilities that were previously available through the UCMDB admin UI. In addition to the four new UI modules already delivered and 3 existing modules, the UCMDB Browser further simplifies administrative and integration management:
- The new Resource Manager module enables you to search for and graphically consume various resources in one place
- The new Integration Studio module allows you to manage UCMDB integration points more easily and “at-a-glance”
- New map view with comprehensive CI and CI topology browsing capabilities, and in-map navigation
From the UCMDB Modules menu icon (), you can now easily access the administrative and integration management features through the out-of-the-box modules:
Module Description UCMDB Home Opens the UCMDB Home landing page, which allows you to add different types of widgets to the landing page. Configuration Item Search Based on the existing Search module from the UCMDB Browser, the search capability is enhanced and extended. Integration Studio Opens the new Integration Studio module, which enables you to manage your UCMDB integration points and connect and share information with external repositories, such as other UCMDB, IT Performance Suite products, or third-party products. LDAP Manager Opens the LDAP Manager module, which enables you to associate Universal CMDB groups with LDAP groups. Package Manager Opens the Package Manager module, which enables you to easily manage the capabilities of your system based on the packages you deploy.
Probe Dashboard Opens the Probe Dashboard module. It retrieves and displays real-time information about data flow probes and workflow/discovery jobs in a centralized view, allowing you to easily view all probes and jobs, and also drill down to probe and job details. Reports The existing Reports module from the legacy UCMDB Browser. Resource Manager Opens the new unified Resource Manager module, which enables you to quickly search and consume various UCMDB resources in one place. Service Modeling The existing Service Modeling module from the UCMDB Browser. Smart Software Analytics The Smart Software Analytics module relies on data analytics to analyze large amount of scan files and suggest new software signatures, that can be used to recognize installed software. It automatically teaches unrecognized software by intelligently using Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning technology. Smart Software Analytics provides you with an enhanced software recognition ratio that requires less manual effort. UCMDB Browser Allows you to access UCMDB Browser in the legacy style. -
Enhanced and expanded search capability
The new top search bar enables you to quickly locate different types of resources. You can search from the following categories:
- Configuration Item. Opens the search results directly in the UCMDB Browser.
- Queries and Models. Opens the search results directly in the Resource Manager module.
- Views and Reports. Opens the search results in the Resource Manager module or in Topology Map.
-
The new license report is accessible from the UCMDB Browser
You can easily access the new UCMDB license report from the new UCMDB Browser (Help > About > LICENSE).
- Other general improvements to UCMDB Browser
Administration and Supportability
-
Enhanced password policy by unifying the special or symbol characters available for passwords
Unified the special or symbol characters part in different password policies, so that only one set of special or symbol characters are allowed for all passwords you enter during the installation of UCMDB server or Data Flow Probe:
:/._+-[]
This change applies to passwords for master key, keystore, truststore, admin, sysadmin, and UISysadmin from the UCMDB server side, and PostgreSQL Probe account, PostgreSQL root account, administrator, user account used for uploading scan files, and so on from the probe side.
If an invalid password is provided, an error message will indicate clearly which policy rules are broken.
-
Added support for Oracle Container Database (CDB) for hosting the UCMDB database
This enables UCMDB server to work on Oracle Container Database (CDB). For details, see How to Enable UCMDB to Work on Oracle Container Database (CDB).
-
Added support for SAML authentication on UCMDB UI
Using SAML Authentication, UCMDB allows users to access the UCMDB UI based on the authentication assertion received from the Identity Provider (IdP). It passes the authentication responsibility to IdP and the users automatically log in to the UCMDB UI when a successful response is received from IdP.
Note UCMDB Browser does not support SAML authentication in this release.
Enhancements to REST APIs
- Added support for root context. For details, see Configuration.
-
Added support for pagination in REST APIs in UCMDB
- Introduced a new REST API to provide information about availability of REST API services. See Availability Information.
Data push enhancements
-
Enhanced the Cmdb10xAdapter adapter by adding a new adapter setting allow.chunk.size.over.limit with the default value true (UCMDB UI > Data Flow Management > Adapter Manager > Cmdb10xAdapter > Edit Adapter Source). This is useful if the chunk size after the split is larger than the data push chunk size setting. It will send the data even though the limit is breached, because cases happen that a component from a TQL query result cannot be split into a chunk smaller than the push chunk size setting, and then the data push operation will try to send it even though the size is larger.
- Added support for enabling delta data push based on TQL query layout with the new adapter setting push.changes.based.on.attributes.
Enhancements to LDAP
You can disable the use of the REFERRALS property in LDAP bind by using a new global setting settings.ldap.use.referrals.
Other enhancements
- You an disable saving history events to history tables for specific object CI types by adding the new CI type qualifier CIT_NOT_TRACKED_FOR_HISTORY to the desired CITs. For details, see How to Disable History for Specific Object CITs in the UCMDB online help.

Added support for installing and running Data Flow Probe on Linux using non-root privileges
It is now possible to install and run Data Flow Probe and probe database on Linux using a non-root user account for integration purpose. This capability is applicable to union mode regular Data Flow Probe. After the probe installation is complete, it requires manual registration of probe service with root account privileges. With non-root user account, you can run the probes installed using the non-root user account only.
