Searching the Help
To search for information in the Help, type a word or phrase in the Search box. When you enter a group of words, OR is inferred. You can use Boolean operators to refine your search.
Results returned are case insensitive. However, results ranking takes case into account and assigns higher scores to case matches. Therefore, a search for "cats" followed by a search for "Cats" would return the same number of Help topics, but the order in which the topics are listed would be different.
Search for | Example | Results |
---|---|---|
A single word | cat
|
Topics that contain the word "cat". You will also find its grammatical variations, such as "cats". |
A phrase. You can specify that the search results contain a specific phrase. |
"cat food" (quotation marks) |
Topics that contain the literal phrase "cat food" and all its grammatical variations. Without the quotation marks, the query is equivalent to specifying an OR operator, which finds topics with one of the individual words instead of the phrase. |
Search for | Operator | Example |
---|---|---|
Two or more words in the same topic |
|
|
Either word in a topic |
|
|
Topics that do not contain a specific word or phrase |
|
|
Topics that contain one string and do not contain another | ^ (caret) |
cat ^ mouse
|
A combination of search types | ( ) parentheses |

Rename a configuration item
Applies to User Roles:
Configuration Manager
Configuration Administrator
Configuration Auditor
There are many cases in which you need to rename a configuration item (CI). As a best practice, you are recommended to run the Change Management process to modify CI names; alternatively, if HPE Universal CMDB (UCMDB) is available, you can directly rename CIs in UCMDB.
Prior to version 9.41, renaming a CI in Service Management did not trigger automatic updates to the related records, such as CI relationships or records that reference the CI as an affected service or CI.
Starting with version 9.41, when a CI is renamed, Service Management automatically updates the CI information in all related records (incidents, interactions, changes, and so on) to maintain data integrity across modules.
The process of CI renaming depends on whether you are using the UCMDB integration or Service Management for Configuration Management.
If you are using the UCMDB integration
If you are using the UCMDB integration for Configuration Management, use the following CI renaming process:
- The requestor submits a request to rename a CI (for example, a laptop).
- The Configuration Analyst creates a request for change in Service Management for renaming the CI, and then go through the change management process.
- The Configuration Manager changes the CI name in UCMDB.
- The UCMDB integration pushes the renamed CI to Service Management.
If you are using only Service Manager
If you are using only Service Management for Configuration Management, use the following CI renaming process:
- The requestor submits a request to rename a CI (for example, a laptop).
- The Configuration Analyst creates a request for change in Service Management for renaming the CI. The change request then goes through the Change Management process.
-
The Configuration Manager changes the CI display name in Service Management.
Caution Service Management does not allow duplicate display names for CIs of the same CI type.
