Searching the Help
To search for information in the Help, type a word or phrase in the Search box. When you enter a group of words, OR is inferred. You can use Boolean operators to refine your search.
Results returned are case insensitive. However, results ranking takes case into account and assigns higher scores to case matches. Therefore, a search for "cats" followed by a search for "Cats" would return the same number of Help topics, but the order in which the topics are listed would be different.

What is the model catalog?
The model catalog contains descriptions of different types of assets that you are tracking. For example, you can track the following items by using the model catalog:
- Application software
- Computer hardware
- Office equipment
Add a software installation model to the catalog
Applies to User roles: Configuration Administrator
System Administrator
You can add a software installation model to the catalog that will track the points for each install or version and track whether the software installation is authorized. You must create a new model before you can create new configuration items (CIs) that are based on the model.
To add a software installation model to the catalog, follow these steps:

Click one of the following based on your role:
- For Configuration Administrators, click Configuration Management > Configuration Management Administration > Models.
- For System Administrators, click System Administration > Base System Configuration > Models.
The Search Model Records form opens.
- Complete the following new model information:
- Type a unique part number in the Part No. field.
- Type a description in the Brief Description field.
- Click Fill and then select a manufacturer in the Manufacturer field.
- Type a model in the Model field.
- Click Fill in the LI Category field and then select Software Installation as the Line Item Category Name.

Click Add.
Service Manager adds the model record and displays several more tabs where you can enter additional information about the model.
- Select the Software tab and type the name in the Application Name field.
- From the Software tab, type or select the following Installation Information:
- Points per Install
- Version
- Authorized?

Type or select any additional information for the model in the other form tabs.
Note Click all tabs to make sure that you have completed the required fields.

Click Save. Service Manager updates the model record.

Click OK. You can now create new configuration items based on the new model.
Add a software license model to the catalog
Applies to User roles: Configuration Administrator
You can add a software license model to the catalog to track license information, including whether the license authorizes single- or multi-user, total number of installs, and evaluation rights. You must create a new model before you can create new configuration items (CIs) that are based on the model.
To add a software license model to the catalog, follow these steps:
- Click Configuration Management > Configuration Management Administration > Models. The Search Model Records form opens.
- Type or select the new model information, including a unique Part Number, and then click Add.
- Double-click Software License to select it as the Line Item Category.
Service Manager adds the model record, and then displays several more tabs where you can enter additional information about the model. - Select the Software tab, and then type the name in the Application Name field.
- Type or select the following License Information:
- Single-User or Multi-User
- Total Number of Installs
- Evaluation Rights
- Type or select any additional information for the model on the other form tabs.
Note Select all tabs to make sure that you have completed all required fields.
- Click Save. Service Manager updates the model record.
- Click OK. You can now create new configuration items based on the new model.
