User Views

In this task you configure or create a role to limit the views that are available to users and the type of access users have to the view. Views define which RTSM objects users can see. Access type defines what users can do with the associated view, for example, View, Change, Delete or Full Control.

1. Open the Users, Groups, and Roles page:

   Administration > Users > Users, Groups, and Roles

   Alternatively, click Users, Groups, and Roles.

2. In the Manage Roles pane, select an existing role that you want to configure or create a new role. For task information, see How to Create Roles.

3. In the Permissions section, click Open RTSM Permissions Editor to access the RTSM, and expand the Views item.

   Note You must give the role a name before you can access the RTSM Permissions editor, as the role is automatically saved when the editor is launched.

4. Select views that you want to assign as part of the role and grant the appropriate permission levels.

5. Click Apply to save the changes.

6. Optional. If you want to allow users with the assigned role to be able to remove view-based filtering and see events, select Clear View Filter in the Event Browser resource in the Operations Console category.

In this task, you configure a user to see only the events associated with a view that you select for an Event Browser page. The View Selector is disabled in locked Event Browser pages.

1. In My Workspace, create a page and add the Event Browser component. Select a view for the Event Browser, and then save the page.

2. Configure permissions for the Event Browser page. Open the Users, Groups, and Roles page:

   Administration > Users > Users, Groups, and Roles

   1. In the Manage Roles pane, select an existing role that you want to configure or create a new role. For task information, see How to Create Roles.

   2. Apply Locked permissions to the Event Browser page. Select the Workspaces category and the User Pages resource, and select the Event Browser page to which you want to apply locked permissions.

   3. Make sure the user has permission to view events.

      Select the Operations Console category and the Events resource, and assign the actions the user can perform on the events assigned to the user and on events assigned to other users.

      Optional. You can also add and manage custom event categories. Click Manage Event Categories to open the Event Categories editor and add or remove event categories. Event categories are logical groupings of events (for example: database, OpenVMS, or hardware) which can be assigned to OMi users. For more information, see Event Filters.

   4. Make sure the user has permission to view the view selected in the Event Browser page. For details, see How to Grant Permissions on Views in Roles.

   Changes to the permissions take effect the next time the user logs in.

You can configure a user to see only the CIs associated with a view that you select for a Top View page. The view selector is disabled in locked Top View pages. To lock a view in Top View, follow these steps:

1. In My Workspace, create a new page and add the Top View component.

2. Select a view for Top View from the drop-down list.

   Note You can also select a CI from the displayed topology. In this case, when a user opens the locked Top View page, the focus will be on the CI you selected.

3. Save the page.

4. Configure permissions for the Top View page. Open the Users, Groups, and Roles page:

   Administration > Users > Users, Groups, and Roles

   1. In the Manage Roles pane, select an existing role that you want to configure or create a new role.

   2. Under Permissions, select the Workspaces category and the User Pages resource, and then select the Top View page to which you want to apply locked permissions.
