Configure Structured Log File Policies

Structure Log File policies enable you to acquire data by reading entries from a log file with a defined structure. Data is extracted from the log file when a log file entry matches the fields defined in the policy by using the OM pattern-matching language. A Structured Log File policy then processes the extracted data by applying the default values and rules defined in the policy, and finally responds by sending the processed data to OMi.

The following types of data can be forwarded to OMi using a corresponding type of the Structured Log File policies:

  • Events.

  • Metrics.

  • Generic output data.

Note Before setting up a policy, you should be:

  • Familiar with the format and syntax of the log file that the policy reads
  • Clear about the purpose and usage of the forwarded data in OMi.

Troubleshooting

  • To start troubleshooting, check the log files of the agent in the %OvDataDir%log directory (Windows systems) or the /var/opt/OV/log directory (Linux systems).

  • To investigate issues related to policy execution, first examine the %OvDataDir%log\System.txt file (Windows systems) or the /var/opt/OV/log/System.txt file (Linux systems).

Note The log files whose names start with the opr- prefix are generated by the OMi web console.
