Searching the Help
To search for information in the Help, type a word or phrase in the Search box. When you enter a group of words, OR is inferred. You can use Boolean operators to refine your search.
Results returned are case insensitive. However, results ranking takes case into account and assigns higher scores to case matches. Therefore, a search for "cats" followed by a search for "Cats" would return the same number of Help topics, but the order in which the topics are listed would be different.
Search for | Example | Results |
---|---|---|
A single word | cat
|
Topics that contain the word "cat". You will also find its grammatical variations, such as "cats". |
A phrase. You can specify that the search results contain a specific phrase. |
"cat food" (quotation marks) |
Topics that contain the literal phrase "cat food" and all its grammatical variations. Without the quotation marks, the query is equivalent to specifying an OR operator, which finds topics with one of the individual words instead of the phrase. |
Search for | Operator | Example |
---|---|---|
Two or more words in the same topic |
|
|
Either word in a topic |
|
|
Topics that do not contain a specific word or phrase |
|
|
Topics that contain one string and do not contain another | ^ (caret) |
cat ^ mouse
|
A combination of search types | ( ) parentheses |

Event Browser options
You can customize the Event Browser to display only the information that is relevant to your business. For example, you can add and remove columns, set sound notifications for when new events arrive, limit event filtering to the selected CI and its child CIs, or apply a colored background that represents the severity of the event.
The global defaults are applied to any new Event Browser opened and are used by all new users. User-specific Event Browser configurations override the global defaults for existing Event Browsers only.
Administration > Operations Console > Event Browser Options
Alternatively, click Event Browser Options.
Tasks
- Make sure you have permission to configure global Event Browser options. For details, see Users, Groups, and Roles.
-
On the Columns tab, select the columns to display in the Event Browser and click the Move column to the displayed columns button to include them in the Display these columns box.
You can also add custom attributes as columns. For details, see How to add Custom Attributes as columns. For a description of the available columns, see Columns.
-
Select from the Display these columns box any columns that you do not want to display and click the Remove columns from the displayed columns button.
-
Select column names and rearrange their display positions using the Move column up and Move column down buttons.
The first column item in the list is displayed as the first column in the Event Browser. Subsequent column items are placed progressively to the right in the order of their appearance in the Display these columns list.
-
On the Other tab, configure any of the following additional options:
-
Play sound notification for new events. Enables sound notification for new events.
-
Include child CIs in CI filter. Enables filtering events by the selected CI and any of its child CIs.
-
Show selection check boxes. Adds a check box next to each event that enables selecting and clearing the selection of multiple blocks of events. Selection check boxes also enable the following functionality:
-
Hold down the Shift key while clicking the right mouse button to extend the last action (select or clear check box) from the last clicked event to the current clicked event. For example, if you select or clear a check box and hold down the Shift key while selecting or clearing another event, all events in between will be selected or cleared.
-
Click the check box in the event browser columns header to select or clear all check boxes. If there is a partial selection and you clear the header check box, all check boxes will be cleared.
-
Click an event row (not the check box) to clear other selections and select this event only.
-
-
Color event background in accordance with the event's severity. Applies a colored event background that represents the severity of the event in the Event Browser. Event background coloring includes the following options:
-
All events. All events displayed in the Event Browser are colored in accordance with the severity of the event.
-
Only events assigned to current user. Events assigned to the active user are colored in accordance with the severity of the event. All other events are identified with the default light background.
-
Only unassigned events. Events not assigned to the current user are colored in accordance with the severity of the event. Events assigned to the active user are identified with a light pink colored background. Events assigned to any other users are identified with a light yellow colored background.
-
Note The event browser option Compact view for events is not available for configuration by administrators because it is a user-specific setting.
-
-
Click Save.
Tip To revert your custom browser configuration to the factory defaults, click Revert.
You can add custom attributes as columns by defining them under the corresponding infrastructure settings:
Administration > Setup and Maintenance > Infrastructure Settings
Alternatively, click Infrastructure Settings.
Select Operations Management > Custom Attributes Settings.
Custom attributes defined there can then be selected as a column in the Event Browser.
