Searching the Help
To search for information in the Help, type a word or phrase in the Search box. When you enter a group of words, OR is inferred. You can use Boolean operators to refine your search.
Results returned are case insensitive. However, results ranking takes case into account and assigns higher scores to case matches. Therefore, a search for "cats" followed by a search for "Cats" would return the same number of Help topics, but the order in which the topics are listed would be different.
Search for | Example | Results |
---|---|---|
A single word | cat
|
Topics that contain the word "cat". You will also find its grammatical variations, such as "cats". |
A phrase. You can specify that the search results contain a specific phrase. |
"cat food" (quotation marks) |
Topics that contain the literal phrase "cat food" and all its grammatical variations. Without the quotation marks, the query is equivalent to specifying an OR operator, which finds topics with one of the individual words instead of the phrase. |
Search for | Operator | Example |
---|---|---|
Two or more words in the same topic |
|
|
Either word in a topic |
|
|
Topics that do not contain a specific word or phrase |
|
|
Topics that contain one string and do not contain another | ^ (caret) |
cat ^ mouse
|
A combination of search types | ( ) parentheses |

Missing Recurrence Rules
Events are sometimes regularly generated to inform that no problem has occurred, for example "alive" events indicate that a system is running. As soon as the expected regular event is not received, it can be assumed that there is a problem, for example, if a system stops reporting “alive” events every 10 minutes, it has probably stopped running.
Configuring a missing recurrence rule requires a filter to select the events to consider, for example, to select events with "node alive" in the title. Certain attributes must be the same to be regarded as originating from the same source, for example, the node, CI and source CI must be the same. The time allowable interval before an expected event is considered to be missing must be specified, for example, a maximum of 10 minutes in our example.
It may be considered advantageous to discard recurring events to reduce the number of unnecessary events being sent to the Event Browser.
When the expected event is not received within the specified time period, is it necessary to inform the operator that action is necessary. A new event can be automatically generated. All matching events can be related to the new event as symptoms.
Administration > Event Processing > Correlation > Stream-Based Event Correlation
Alternatively, click Stream-Based Event Correlation.
Tasks
This task shows you how to create a missing recurrence rule.
-
In the Stream-Based Event Correlation Rules pane, click the New button and select Missing Recurrence Rule to open the Create New Missing Recurrence Rule dialog box.
-
In the General tab, enter a display name, and (optional) a description of the rule being specified.
-
Select Active, if you want to make the rule active immediately.
-
Select the Condition tab and specify a filter to identify recurring events.
If no appropriate filter is already configured, click the Browse (...) button, which opens the Select an Event Filter side panel. Create a filter or edit an existing one. For information about filters, see Event Filters.
-
Select one of the following options to specify the handling of received expected events:
- Release Events - Expected events are immediately released for further processing.
- Close Events - Expected events are automatically closed.
-
Discard Events - Expected events are automatically discarded (events will be on hold).
-
In the Correlation section, specify the attributes that must have the same values in the combination rule as follows:
- Click the New correlation attribute button and select the type of attribute, for example General and select an attribute from the drop-down list.
- Repeat for additional attributes.
-
Select the time period within which a recurring event must occur. If this time period is exceeded, a notification event is automatically generated.
-
Select the Create Event tab to specify the event to be created when the rule conditions are met. Open the Edit Event Attributes dialog box using the Edit attributes button, and specify the attributes and values of the event to be automatically generated.
-
If generating a new event, select the Events selected by <> check box if the generated event is to be the cause event for the selected repeated events.
-
If generating a new event as a cause event, specify a Rule Weight for this correlation.
-
Select OK to save the rule.
UI Descriptions
The General tab is located in the Create New and Edit Combination Rule wizards.
User interface elements are described below:

Display Name |
Display name of the missing recurrence rule. |
Description |
Brief description of the missing recurrence rule. |
Active |
Select to make the missing recurrence rule active on rule creation. |
The Condition tab is located in the Create New and Edit Missing Recurrence Rule wizards.

Event Filter |
The Select an event filter dialog box enables you to select a filter for recurring events. If no appropriate filter is already configured, click the Browse (...) button, which opens the Select an Event Filter dialog box. Create a filter or edit an existing one. For information about filters, see How to Define Event Filters. The following options specify how events selected by the rule should be handled:
|
New correlation attribute: Opens the New Correlation Attribute menu from which you can specify attributes that must be correlated. The available attributes are grouped as follows:
|
|
Delete Item: Deletes the selected attribute from the attributes list. |
|
Interval |
Specifies the time period which must be exceeded for the rule to be executed and a new event generated reporting that an expected event did not arrive. OMi calculates the interval based on the recurring event's creation time. |
The Create Event tab is located in the Create New and Edit Missing Recurrence Rule wizards.
User interface elements are described below:
UI Element |
Description |
---|---|
Create a new event: Specifies that a new event is created on matching of the combination rule. Select Edit attributes to specify the attributes of the automatically-generated event. |
|
Edit attributes: Opens the Event Attributes dialog box from which you can specify the attributes and values of events. For details, see Create Event and Modify Event Dialog Boxes. |
|
Created event is a cause ... |
Select the Events selected by <filter name> checkbox if the generated event is to be the cause event for the selected events. |
Rule Weight |
Specifies a weighting for the selected correlation rule. The default value is An SBEC rule with a higher weighting can override an existing cause-symptom relationship previously created by another correlation rule with a lower weighting. |
The Create Event dialog box is accessed from the Create Event tab using the Edit Attributes button. It is used to specify the new event to be generated and sent to the Event Browser when the missing repetition rule is matched.
User interface elements are described below:
UI Element |
Description |
---|---|
General Info |
Specifies the basic attributes of the event to be created or changed. Select from the available menus or enter text as appropriate. |
Additional Info |
Specifies the additional attributes of the event to be created or changed. Select from the available menus or enter text as appropriate. Note The Log Only option sets the lifecycle state of the event to Closed. |
