Ad hoc groups

An ad hoc group is a query that produces a list of items that is not associated within a hierarchical or peer relationship within Configuration Management. Ad hoc groups can not be related to service level agreements or processes.

An ad hoc group consists of components that you can associate at random, or that have a special relationship. For example, AdHocHardware might be the name of a group of all the Configuration Items (CIs) temporarily assigned to a user to complete a special assignment. By collecting the CIs into an ad hoc group, you maintain a global strategy for addressing and managing the special assignment CIs within the group.

You can move the CIs in an ad hoc group to another group and they are not subject to change control.
