Software license tracking and compliance task review

To effectively manage software licenses and compliance, perform the following sequence of tasks:

  1. Add the software license and software installation information to the catalog.
  2. Create an asset record for the software application.
  3. When you receive the software license, add a Software License type asset record and an Installation type asset record to the Configuration Management database.
  4. Create a software contract record.
  5. Associate the software license asset record with the software contract record.
  6. Create a support contract and associate the application asset to the contract.
  7. Install the software on multiple workstations and create one new software installation record for each installation.
  8. Create a software counter to verify that the number of actual installations conforms with the number of installation licenses.
